MEDITECH Unveils New Healthcare AI to Reduce Clinician Burnout and Optimize Revenue

A healthcare professional in blue scrubs uses a computer to view a complex dashboard filled with patient data, colorful charts, and medical analytics within a clean, modern clinical office setting.

At the 2026 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exposition, electronic health record (EHR) vendor MEDITECH announced a major expansion of its Expanse AI portfolio. The newly unveiled systems aim to improve the entire care experience by reducing clinician burden, actively engaging patients, and supporting crucial revenue generation for healthcare organizations.

A cornerstone of the announcement is the introduction of native ambient intelligence for physicians and nurses. Embedded directly into the workflows of the Expanse Now and Expanse Point of Care mobile apps, this technology captures conversations in real time. By automatically generating visit notes and inpatient assessments, the system drastically reduces documentation burdens. This enables providers to spend more face time with patients and practice at the top of their license. To ensure safety and accuracy, MEDITECH utilizes a "human-in-the-loop" approach, providing clinicians with feedback controls and editing capabilities before any files are saved.

Beyond ambient listening, MEDITECH introduced Ask Expanse, a conversational AI tool that allows clinicians to interactively query a patient's record. Providers can ask clinical questions, explore data, and seamlessly transition to administrative actions, such as automatically generating referral letters.

To empower patients, the new MyHealth Assistant integrates into the patient portal. This AI-powered chatbot uses natural conversation to help patients navigate their health information and schedule appointments, effectively reducing office calls and administrative workload.

MEDITECH is also tackling financial and operational challenges with its Claim Denial Agent. This agentic AI system autonomously researches the root causes of claim denials, prioritizes claims with the highest likelihood of success, and drafts evidence-based appeals by extracting clinical data directly from the EHR. This allows health systems to accelerate revenue recovery without adding additional staff.

According to Helen Waters, MEDITECH's executive vice president and COO, these technologies do not merely solve isolated problems. Instead, they work in tandem to return time to clinicians, provide clarity to patients, and recover enterprise revenue, ultimately supporting a modern, open ecosystem that delivers personalized care to communities of all sizes.
